Check out the Hot Press premiere of the stunning 'Take Cover' music video, below!
A fusion of two musical worlds occurs with the collaboration between Ruairi Lynch, known by his moniker, Bantum, and Jack O'Rourke. The pair's new single ‘Take Cover’ is an electric mix infused with '70s inspired sounds, which is now accompanied by an appropriately eclectic music video. Hot Press are delighted to be premiering this exceptionally creative music video, below.
Created and directed by Barry Gibbons, e renowned Dublin artist, the 'Take Cover' music video features a juxtaposition between nature and the natural world and the other worldliness of disco. The dance-like movements of shapes and colours throughout the video is a perfect representation of the track, which provides an urge to move that you can't not give into.
Representing a departure for both Bantum and O'Rourke, 'Take Cover' sets the duo off on a thrilling new musical exploration. Drawing inspiration from the likes of David Bowie, Roisin Murphy, Metronomy, and Stardust, ‘Take Cover’ blends elements of electronica, funk, rock and dance. The track crafts a completely unique sound from the two, with pulsating disco beats perfectly complimenting O'Rourke's vocals. A lighthearted change in pace from typical techno beats, the new video accompaniment provides a nice change from typical music videos as well.
Speaking about their collaboration and release, Bantum and Jack O'Rourke expressed their excitement, stating: “Having known each other for years, working together on 'Take Cover' has been an incredibly enriching experience. We wanted to create something that combines our unique musical perspectives and reflects our shared love for artists such as David Bowie, Donna Summer and Roisin Murphy. 'Take Cover' represents a departure from our previous work and we’re already thinking about what ideas we can work on next”

Speaking now about the creation of the 'Take Cover' music video, Barry Gibbons says: "The animated music video for 'Take Cover' was created throughout the summer of 2023 in my studio at The Complex, Dublin. The illusion of movement and morphing leaf shapes is built up with hundreds of coloured pencil drawings, each one digitally altered. The drawings are then scanned and pieced back together into a range of sequences and loops. After speaking with Ruairi and Jack at the start of the project and reflecting on some of the themes in the song, we thought it could be fruitful to start thinking about a motif of leaf patterns and shapes.
"As part of my research I sought advice on different leaf shapes and forms from two friends working in the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland, Gardener Leo Walsh and Tour Guide Charlotte Salter-Townshend. They were able to guide me towards the type of leaves and patterns I had in mind for the video, and I'm very grateful for their help and enthusiasm. I really like the contrast of nature and neon between the organic forms and bright disco colour palette."
