Rihanna’s long-awaited follow-up to 2016's Anti has no release date as of yet.
Rihanna has unveiled her new song 'Born Again' from the soundtrack to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The single was written by The-Dream, who previously penned her hits 'Umbrella' and 'Birthday Cake', and follows 'Lift Me Up' from the same soundtrack.
'Lift Me Up' was Rihanna’s first new song as a lead artist in six years and was co-written with Tems, producer Ludwig Göransson, and the Marvel movie’s director, Ryan Coogler, as a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. The 43-year-old died at his Los Angeles home as a result of complications related to colon cancer on August 28, 2020, with his wife and family by his side.
Rihanna also released a music video for the track directed by Autumn Durald Arkapaw.
Rihanna’s long-awaited ninth album and follow-up to Anti has not been announced, but anticipation is ramping up since she announced in September that she would perform the Super Bowl halftime show. Vogue revealed that Rihanna was making a reggae album back in 2018, which she discussed again in a T: The New York Times Style Magazine interview the following year.
Both Wakanda Forever tracks will have to satiate the Rihanna Navy for now — this week Rihanna told the Associated Press that her new album wouldn’t be out anytime soon, though she does have a “special project” in the works for the Superbowl.

Rihanna’s Prime Video special Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 aired earlier this week, featuring performances from Anitta, Burna Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell, as well as appearances from Johnny Depp, Taraji P. Henson, Taylour Paige, Simu Liu, Bella Poarch, Winston Duke, and others.
Depp previously lost a libel suit against The Sun for calling him a “wife beater” in the UK. Rihanna has faced criticism for enlisting Depp to participate in Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, given his history of misogynistic and racist comments against Native American, Black and Jewish people.
