Sawayama takes to the screen alongside Keanu Reeves in the fourth instalment of the John Wick franchise.
The official trailer for Keanu Reeves' John Wick: Chapter 4 has been released, giving viewers a sneak peak of pop star Rina Sawayama's starring role in the film. The London-based artist is set to make her feature film debut as a fighter named Akira, with the trailer giving fans a taste of the singer-songwriter's sword-wielding talents. The movie is set to premiere in March 2023.
Director Chad Stahelski announced Sawayama's involvement in the film back in May 2021. "I'm so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4," Stahelski said, according to Deadline. "She's an incredible talent who'll bring so much to the film."
The fourth chapter of the franchise will also feature Bill Skarsgård, Donnie Yen, Laurence Fishburne and Hiroyuki Sanada among others. The movie follows the journey of John Wick (Keanu Reeves) as the former hitman fights for his freedom. The 2023 film comes as a continuation of John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3, with the latest installation released back in 2019.
Sawayama's film debut succeeds the release of her newest studio album, Hold The Girl, that came out on streaming platforms earlier this fall. The pop star is currently on tour in support of her LP, and made an appearance at 3Olympia Theatre last month. She is now making her way across the pond for the American leg of the tour.
