The Oscar-nominated Irish actress hosted an intimate screening at the Irish Film Institute last night, ahead of her appearance on tonight's Late Late Show
Ruth Negga was in Dublin for a special screening of her new film Passing last night.
The Oscar-nominated Limerick actress appeared on the red carpet at the Irish Film Institute for the intimate Dublin screening of her new Netflix movie, directed and written by Rebecca Hall. The preview was hosted by Negga herself, who gave a brief introduction to the film and its themes.
Adapted from the celebrated 1929 novel of the same name by Nella Larsen, Passing is the story of Irene Redfield, played by Tessa Thompson and Clare Kendry, played by Negga, two black women who can 'pass' as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the colour line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in late 1920s New York. The film intimately uses the notion of “passing” to explore not just racial identity but gender and the responsibilities of motherhood, sexuality and the performance of femininity.
Acclaimed upon its premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, the film also stars Bill Camp, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, and Alexander Skarsgard, and is produced by Forest Whitaker.
It will be released in selected cinemas on October 29th, following on to the streaming service on November 10th.

She will join Ryan Tubridy to discuss 'Passing', her incredible career, and her plans to star alongside Daniel Craig in Macbeth on Broadway next year.
Passing will be released in Irish cinemas on October 29th.
