Director Greta Gerwig revealed scheduling conflicts ruled out the Irish actor's appearance in the film.
Irish actor Saoirse Ronan was originally going to cameo in the highly anticipated Barbie movie, according to the film's director.
Gerwig expressed disappointment that scheduling conflicts made it impossible for the star to make it to the Barbie set. She also planned a cameo for Ronan's longtime costar Timothée Chalamet, who was also unable to appear. The American actor was busy filming his upcoming Wonka film, as well as the Dune sequel in which he stars.
"It was always going to have to be sort of a smaller thing because [Saoirse] was actually producing at the time," Gerwig explained in an interview. Referring to Chalamet's schedule as well, she joked about being "so annoyed" about their conflicts but that she "love[d] them so much."

Ronan and Gerwig have collaborated on multiple films, with Ronan starring in Gerwig's 2017 directorial debut Ladybird. She also played the character of Jo March in Gerwig's adaptation of the American classic Little Women (2019). The Carlow-raised star received Best Actress nominations for both roles.
The actress, who hails from Dublin, was working on the addiction recovery drama The Outrun in which she both stars and produces. The film is set to release in Irish cinemas later this year as her producer debut.
Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, will release on July 21st.
