Ronan had to pull out of the Barbie movie at the last minute due to other production commitments.
Saoirse Ronan was slated to play a ‘Weird Barbie’ in Greta Gerwig’s hit 2023 film ‘Barbie,’ but was unable to complete her cameo due to scheduling conflicts with other producing commitments.
The Irish actress also starred in Gerwig’s 2017 movie Lady Bird along with her beloved 2019 adaptation of Little Women.
In a recent interview with Variety, Ronan spoke on the intended cameo, saying, “I was definitely gonna be a ‘Weird Barbie.’” Ronan would have appeared in the role alongside Saturday Night Live comedian Kate McKinnon.
Despite working with Barbie costume designer Jacqueline Durran during production, Ronan’s abandoned role never made it into the final cut of the summer blockbuster.

Wonka star Timothée Chalamet was also meant to make a brief cameo in the film having worked with Gerwig as Ronan’s co-star in both Lady Bird and Little Women. Overloaded with similar scheduling conflicts, Chalamet was also unable to make an appearance.
Barbie went on to receive a slew of nominations, ultimately winning the Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement
