Ronan's new company, Arcade Pictures, will produce the memoir adaptation.
Saoirse Ronan is slated to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Amy Liptrot's best-selling memoir, The Outrun.
The project will follow Ronan as the protagonist Rona, who returns to Scotland's wild Orkney islands after a stay in a rehabilitation facility. There, she reconnects with the landscape she grew up in and childhood memories intertwine with the challenges she has faced in adulthood.
Ronan will also produce the film - a product of her new production company, Arcade Pictures.
Arcade Pictures is a Scotland and Ireland-based company founded by Ronan along with Jack Lowden (Dunkirk, Mary Queen of Scots) and producer Dominic Norris (Inseparable, Modern Life is Rubbish).
Nora Fingscheidt, director of The Unforgivable, has co-written the screenplay with Liptrot and will direct the film.

Protagonist Pictures will handle the world sales, co-repping North American sales with CAA Media Finance.
Liptrot's memoir has received massive critical acclaim since its 2015 release, becoming A Sunday Times top 10 bestseller, 2016 Wainwright Prize winner, 2017 PEN Acklerley Prize winner, 15 language translations, with over 110,000 copies sold in the UK alone.
"It was Amy's voice that first drew me to The Outrun," Ronan said in a statement. "Her unusual way of seeing things in a way that perhaps you only can when you've been to the darkest place you can go within yourself. I have been waiting to play a part like this - the messiness, hopefulness, dreaminess, authenticity and humour."
Director Fingscheidt commented on the "wonderful gifts" already present in the making of this film: "One is the setting, the vast cinematic landscapes of the Orkney islands, the other is our main actress, Saoirse Ronan, who brings magic to the screen with her unique mix of charisma and emotional depth."
Since making her film debut in 2007, Ronan has established herself as a staple Irish actor. She has already received four Oscar nominations for her roles in Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird and Little Women.
The star is currently in production on Foe, an upcoming sci-fi thriller also starring Normal People's Paul Mescal.
