It's all about the money.
Because Sony and Disney failed to make an agreement, Spider-Man will no longer be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline reported yesterday that "Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige won't produce any further Spider-Man film".
According to Deadline sources, Disney proposed a 50/50 co-financing deal, which Sony turned down. Sony, in return, made an offer on their own terms - similar to the agreement for the first two Spider-Man movies - which Disney didn't agree on.
Long story short, Spider-Man won't appear in any Marvel movies from now on. Naturally, the fans are far from happy about the news. They even launched petitions against the decision.
"SONY you must let go of this property or renegotiate with Disney to keep all of the fans happy. Please join me in standing against Sony who I'll be boycotting until this matter is properly resolved", one petition reads.

But what are the consequences for future Spider-Man movies? Will there even be any more Spider-Man movies?
Yes. Two follow-ups to Spider-Man: Far From Home are already in the works. Tom Holland will still star as Spider-Man and the films will be directed by Jon Watts, just like the ones before.
However, Kevin Feige will be replaced as lead creative producer. That also means, that Marvel characters like Nick Fury or Happy will be excluded from future Spider-Man films.
Today, Sony shared a statement on Twitter, writing: "Much of today's news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige's involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film."
They add that "the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own."
