The short documentary follows how the Dublin band made their debut album in France
With their debut album release and non stop tour dates announced from February to May this year, SPRINTS have taken 2024 by the horns, and now the Dublin garage punk band has a documentary to add to their impressive catalogue of projects.
The ten minute long documentary is available to fans on Youtube and is directed by long time SPRINTS collaborator and photographer Niamh Barry.
'SPRINTS - LETTER TO SELF (ALBUM DOCUMENTARY)' is as advertised, a documentary about the recording process the band underwent to release their blistering debut album, which Hot Press gave a mighty 9/10, calling it a 'as melodious as it is muscular ' and even going as far to say it is one of the all-time great Irish debuts.
The documentary takes place in March 2023, when SPRINTS traveled to Studio Black Box, La Dionnaie, France. The isolated recording studio allowed the band focus as they were not burdened by distractions and were able to completely devout themselves to their debut.
Studio Black Box has a long tradition of working with Irish artists like Róisin O, Glen Hansard and Dublin Guitar Quartet to name a few. Part of what drew the group to the rural production studio was the impressive list of musicians who ahd recorded there- included influences such as Anna Calvi and The Kills.
The documentary is shot in a candid fashion, giving an immersive insight into the creative process behind the acclaimed debut, showing a mix of band members at work, in down time, and giving an overall sense of life making a loud album in this quiet little corner of France.
