A dark comedy set in the throws of the Cold War, the film follows a rogue U.S. General who orders a preemptive attack on the Soviet Union, thereby triggering a worldwide nuclear crisis.
Brought to the stage by Armando Iannucci, creator of the hit TV comedies The Thick Of It and Veep, alongside Olivier Award winner Sean Foley, the production will premiere in London this October before travelling to Dublin for a two-week run.
“The idea of putting Dr. Strangelove on stage is daunting. A huge responsibility,” said Coogan, best known for his role as chat-show host Alan Partridge and his recent appearance as Jimmy Saville in The Reckoning. “It’s also an exciting challenge, an opportunity to bring this timeless classic to a new audience.”
Dr. Strangelove will play at The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from 5th February to 22nd February 2025, with tickets on sale from 8th March at 9am.
