Unlike Atlanta, Glover will not take on an acting role in Swarm.
Donald Glover and Atlanta writer Janine Nabers have announced the release date for new horror series Swarm.
The show has also received a new teaser, which provides the first glimpses into the plot. The series will make its SXSW debut on 10th March 2023, and will be available on Prime Video on 17th March 2023.
Nabers is a well-known playwright best known for the plays Serial Black Face, Juniper, and A Swell in the Ground. She also has experience writing television shows, having written for HBO's Watchmen and AMC's Dietland. Her first work as a producer has been on Netflix's Away.
The horror series, starring Dominique Fishback, is about Dre, "a young woman whose obsession with a pop star takes a dark turn," according to the YouTube caption. It also includes musician Chloe Bailey (of Chloe x Halle) in the role of Dre's sister and Damson Idris as Dre's boyfriend.

According to Vanity Fair, Dre has an obsession with a singer who shares similarities with Beyoncé.
“We were really interested in creating an antihero story,” Nabers said in an interview with the same publication. Classic anti-heroes like Mad Men's Don Draper and The Sopranos' Tony Soprano provided the most inspiration. The goal is to reinvent that archetype “through the lens of a Black, modern-day woman”.
Referring to the 2001 drama film by Michael Haneke and Martin Scorsese‘s 1982 black comedy film, Glover added “We just thought it’d be fun to make a post-truth Piano Teacher mixed with The King Of Comedy”.
The team behind Swarm is comprised mostly of people who have worked on Atlanta. The comedy-drama about the college dropout and music manager Earnest Marks ended last year after four seasons. According to Nabers, Swarm lives in "the same tonal space“ and therefore make it feel like "a sister to Atlanta".
