Premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Lisa Mulcahy directed Irish psychological thriller Lies We Tell comes out in theatres October 13th.
The international film festival Galway Film Fleadh sets a spotlight on Ireland's small but rich film industry. As a part of that, they offer first glimpses into stunning and captivating projects - like the Irish film and psychological thriller, Lies We Tell, which is set to premiere at the festival on July 15th.
"My father taught me that angels and demons walk among us, clothed in human flesh."
Directed by The Legend of Longwood's Lisa Mulcahy and written by Elisabeth Gooch, the film delves into the struggle of the orphaned heiress Maud against her "charming and dangerous" uncle. Living alone in an isolated manor, she must vie not only for the inheritance her father left her but for her life as her relatives attempt to gaslight and manipulate her.
Accompanying the trailer is a telling description, detailing the intricate and psychologically-twisted story all too well: "stripped-down, gritty, and all-too-contemporary: this is not a frocks-and-bonnets period picture but a taut, propulsive, fight to the death."
Maud is played by Agnes O'Casey and her uncle is played by David Wilmott. Also starring in the film are Holly Sturton and Chris Walley.
Produced by Ruth Carter of Blue Ink Films and backed by Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland, Lies We Tell will be released to theatres on October 13th.
