Queenie (Channel 4, June 7)
Similar in tone to last year’s BAFTA award-winning Rye Lane, this whapsmart dramedy introduces us to 25-year-old Londoner Queenie Jenkins who, after breaking up with long-term boyfriend Tom, seeks solace in all the wrong places. There’s also lots of commentary on the Black British experience with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’s Joseph Marcell playing Queenie’s Grandad Wilfred who was part of the Windrush generation.

Based on the best-selling Raphaëlle Bacqué biography of the same name, this French biopic whisks us back to the summer of 1972 when the world of haute couture was still in a state of flux after the death of Coco Chanel. At the centre of the intrigue was a young Karl Lagerfield whose bitter rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent’s partner Pierre Bergé and own tempestuous relationship with Jacques de Bascher provide this six-parter with much of its drama. Whether you’re a fashionista or not, it’s a fascinating watch with Daniel Bruhl spookily reminiscent of the young Karl and the attention to period detail absolute.
Presumed Innocent (Apple TV+, June 14)
Ruth Negga stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in this pacy mystery series which finds a previously squeaky clean member of Chicago’s prosecuting attorneys’ office becoming the prime suspect in a brutal murder. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, the plot does a 180° pivot with Negga & Co. clearly having a ball as the tension builds towards the most dramatic of finales.
