Irish-American comedian and actor Tig Notaro will be honoured at the US-Ireland Alliance's 15th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards. The event, hosted by Star Wars director J.J. Abrams, will be held in California on February 6.

Notaro, whose full name is Mathilde O'Callaghan Notaro, originally hails from Mississipi. She has achieved critical acclaim for her effortless storytelling and fearless stage presence, discussing subject matter ranging from the delightfully absurd to the serious. She was recently named "one of the 50 best stand-up comics of all time" by Rolling Stone.

The comic is perhaps best known for writing, producing and starring in the award-nominated autobigraphical series One Mississipi. She's also been nominated for Emmy and Grammy Awards for comedy specials and albums. As for the future, Notaro will be reprising a role on CBS' Star Trek and releasing the second season of talk show Under a Rock with Tig Notaro this winter.

The Oscar Wilde Award has been awarded by the US-Ireland Alliance since 2006 and celebrates cinematic contributions by Irish-Americans in the entertainment industry. Notaro now joins the likes of previous honourees Mark Hamill, Saoirse Ronan, Colin Farrell and Ruth Negga.
