From Bong Joon-ho reboots and A.I. cop capers to gangland gorefests and - cue drum roll - the return of Fraggle Rock, Stuart Clark brings you the 10 New TV Series you absolutely have to watch.
1. HOLLYWOOD (NETFLIX)
In the unlikely event that you haven’t already gorged on it - we watched all seven episodes on the day of release - American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy and Glee’s Ian Brennan get it spectacularly right with their trip back to a post-World War II Tinsel Town rife with racism, homophobia and sexism.
A ‘factionalised’ account of Hollywood’s supposed Golden Age, its seamless merging of invented characters and real life stars like Rock Hudson, Anna May Wong, Vivien Leigh and Hattie Gladwell, who’s brilliantly played by Queen Latifah, has us counting down to Season 2.
2. Space Force (Netflix, May 29)

Much, ahem, lunar-cy ensues as the newly formed sixth branch of the US armed forces prepares to get its boots on the Moon again.
Taking its inspiration from a certain very stable genius, this endearingly daft comedy finds co-creator Steve Carrell slugging it out with John Malkovich, Lisa Kudrow and Ben Schwarz to see who steals the scenes.
Malkovich routinely wins but the all-round chemistry is great.
3. Upload (Amazon Prime)
It’s 2033 and for a handsome fee people can be uploaded into the virtual afterlife of their choosing. The technology doesn’t always work properly, though, which is why we find newly- deceased computer wiz Nathan Brown giving out to his customer service rep, Nora.
Along with some hearty laughs, this sumptous looking sci-fi rom-com also asks pertinent questions about the nature of humanity. And, yes, I was stroking my new Lockdown beard while writing that.

4. Central Park (Apple TV, May 29)
Not content with working on the cinematic version of Bob’s Burgers that’s due in April 2021, Loren Bouchard has dreamed up the Tillerman family who live in and look after the titular 843-acres of Manhattan greenery. Their chief adversary is Bitsy Bradenham, a Donald Trump type who wants to build high-rent condos in the park.
Some of the comedic one-liners are worthy of Family Guy, The Simpsons and BoJack Horseman, all of which its lead voice actor Kirsten Bell has appeared in.
5. Snowpiercer (Netflix, May 25)
Seven years before Parasite earned him an Oscar, Bong Joon-ho struck out at the box-office with his adaptation of Jacques Lob’s sci-fi graphic novel, Le Transperceneige.
He returns as the Executive Producer of the TV reboot, which finds the likes of Jennifer Connelly, Mickey Sumner and Daveed Diggs on a perpetually moving train carrying the survivors of a near apocalypse.

Class warfare, social injustice and the hierarchy of suffering all rear their head as the wheels keep going round and round.
6. Fraggle Rock: Rock On! (Apple TV+, new episodes free to view every Tuesday)
Spurred on by the Covid-19 crisis, the Jim Henson Company have brought Gobo, Red, Boober, Mokey, Wembley and Uncle Traveling Matt back for a new set of adventures shot entirely on iPhone 11s. They’ve had us grinning like eejits all week.
7. The Other Mother (Freestreaming on the Walter Presents strand of Channel4.com)
Psychological dramas don’t come any more twisted than this tale of a French youngster who suddenly claims that his doting mother is an impostor. The investigating police are faced with an awful dilemma; risk allowing the boy to stay with the wrong parents, or trust the word of a child and ruin a family’s life forever.

Also new and Gallic from Walter... is Philharmonia, which features some extremely dark orchestral manoeuvring and makes its Channel 4 bow at 11pm on May 31.
8. Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt For The Bone Collector (Sky Witness, Monday at 9pm)
Previously played on the big screen by Denzel Washington, Harlan Coben’s NYPD cop turned paraplegic forensics expert is back on the trail of a serial killer who’s almost (but not quite) as smart as he is.
The Bone Collector, AKA Peter Taylor, is played with delicious menace by Mullagh, Co. Cavan’s Brian F. O’Byrne.
Grieving Sopranos fans will be delighted to see Christopher, AKA Michael Imperioli, risen from the proverbial as Detective Rick Sellito.

9. Code 404 (Sky One, Wednesday at 10pm)
Slain Detective Inspector John Major is brought back from the dead to become the world’s first A.I. cop. He’s supposed to be better than ever, but his partner Roy Carver soon suspects that something is amiss.
Written by Horrible Histories man Daniel Peak, the series is a reminder that Stephen Graham does rib-tickling comedy as brilliantly as he does gut-wrenching drama.
10. Gangs Of London (Sky Atlantic, Thursday at 9pm)
Joe Cole - the Skins, Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror star, not the former attacking West Ham midfielder - nails it as the young hardnut seeking vengeance for his father’s killing.

Colm Meaney stars as his expired Mr. Big dad - yep, there’s a lot of flashing back - with Hollyoaks and The Fall’s Emmet J, Scanlan further upping the Irish quotient. It’s very, very violent and very, very good.
