Austin Butler and Luke Grimes are also set to star in the A24 Western feature, which will come out this summer.
A24 has released the first trailer for Midsommar and Hereditary director Ari Aster’s next film Eddington.
Set in May 2020, the film is described as a Western revolving around a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) that sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.
In the trailer, Phoenix’s character can be seen scrolling through coverage of the standoff on his phone, where Emma Stone and Austin Butler appear in snippets on Instagram.
Eddington’s cast is also set to include Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr. and William Belleau.
“Of course, they keep looking at that lab in China. If you look at that lab in Wuhan,” a man’s voice narrates at the beginning of the clip. “When that was established, it was 1956, of course, that was the year Tom Hanks was born, the first celebrity with the virus.”

Aster wrote, directed and is producing the film alongside Lars Knudsen. This marks his fourth feature film after Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau is Afraid.
The film is produced by A24, which rolled out sales on the film at Berlinale’s European Film Market in February, which is set to debut at Cannes in May before opening in theatres on June 18.
