Stephenie Meyer, the author of the best-selling book franchise, will be involved with the project.
Over a decade after the release of the final Twilight film instalment, a new TV series about the worldwide vampire-romance sensation is in the works via Lionsgate Television.
As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the project is currently in its infancy and has not yet been picked up by a network or streaming service. Lionsgate Television, the studio that controls the rights to the franchise, plans to lead development of the show before taking it to potential buyers.
Although little information has been announced regarding the adaption, fans can expect a familiar team behind the production. Stephenie Meyer, who authored the massively successful book franchise, is involved in the project. Wyck Godfrey, who produced the beloved Twilight films, along with former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig, are also set to serve as executive producers on the project. Feig purchased the rights to the book series while at Summit Entertainment, which distributed the films.
In 2017, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during a Wall Street earnings call that “there are a lot more stories to be told” in the Twilight universe. However, it is unclear if the television adaptation will be a remake of Meyers’ books or a new chilling tale.
No timeline for the new series’ production or release has been announced.

Twitter has been abuzz with reactions to the news, with Twilight fans expressing both excitement and hesitancy to a new adaption. American comedian and former talk show host Ellen Degeneres celebrated the news by sharing an old clip of the film's cast on her show. The video shows Degeneres playing a fake character in the franchise and she captioned her post by sarcastically writing: "Here is my audition for the new #Twilight TV Series."
The five Twilight films combined grossed over €3 billion, spanning from 2008’s Twilight to 2012’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. The films also notably launched the careers of Hollywood stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
Twilight is among the latest film franchises to get a TV adaptation, after it was announced that a Harry Potter show is in the works at HBO Max.
