The company reportedly secured the rights after an intense bidding war
Universal Pictures have secured the rights to Britney Spears‘ bestselling memoir The Woman in Me, with Wicked director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt joining forces to adapt the book into a biopic, Variety report.
Spears shared news of the “secret project” on social media, writing that Platt has “always made my favorite movies” and telling her followers to “stay tuned”.
The memoir, which came out last October, has sold over 2.5 million copies in the United States alone.
The book received rave reviews, with critics praising her for its "raw and unfiltered" approach when depicting her experience of fame, motherhood and living under a conservatorship while readers were surprised to learn that Spear underwent a medical abortion while dating then boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

The singer last released music in July of 2023, when she teamed up with Will.i.am on ‘Mind Your Business’. The track seems to be Spears’ last for the foreseeable future, as she denounced claims that she would return to the music interview in January of this year.
Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned 🌹🎥
