Virgin Media's Uprising, produced by Animo Productions in partnership with Hot Press, has been nominated for a Royal Television Society award in the Audience Choice category.
Presented by 2024 RTS Breakthrough Talent Katja Mia, for whom Uprising proved to be a major calling card, and with Hot Press deputy editor Stuart Clark taking on the role of roving interviewer, Uprising showcased some of the finest talents on the Irish music scene.
Across four powerful episodes filmed at The Complex in Dublin’s North inner-city, the show featured performances from bright new talents and established stars alike, as well as topical discussions and outspoken opinions. Some of the names taking part included Hozier, Imelda May, Denise Chaila, Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová, Nell Mescal, Pillow Queens, The Coronas, Villagers, Picture This, Lyra, Mik Pyro, Susan O'Neill, HamsandwicH, Tolü Makay, Junior Brother, Shobsy, Celaviedmai, and more...
"The response to the show was amazing," Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said after the announcement. "I think it successfully bottled very important aspects of the spirit of Hot Press, combining brilliant Irish music with freewheeling conversations and opinions in a way that really captured the imagination. Katja Mia was brilliant as presenter and Stuart did a really great job on the off-site interviews. It was vital to us that the artists and bands loved the way the show turned out – but also that there was such a fantastic, positive response from the audiences. Which is why it feels right that the show has been short-listed in the Audience Choice category. A big well done is in order, to everyone on the team, in Animo, Virgin Media Television and Hot Press."
For anyone who missed out on episodes, Uprising is available to stream via the Virgin Media Player.
