The first full trailer for Alex Garland's new horror creation sees Buckley as a woman stalked by sinister figures in the English countryside.
A new trailer for writer/director Alex Garland’s upcoming film Men gives us a glimpse of Jessie Buckley whose character's peaceful countryside getaway goes shockingly awry. Men will be hitting theatres on May 20.
Harper (Jessie Buckley) seeks to find solace in a remote cottage after facing the tragic loss of her husband. Her picturesque surroundings soon become the setting for a terrifying nightmare of ghostly figures and bloodied bodies. Anyone who watches the trailer will surely notice the eerie choice of having English actor Rory Kinnear portray every male character in the isolated town no matter their age, occupation, or physical appearance.
Known for writing and directing Ex Machina (2014) and Annihilation (2018), Alex Garland has made a name for himself by creating chilling and complex science fiction films that pose intriguing questions about the nature of human relationships with technology. With Men, it appears that Garland is taking somewhat of a digital detox and trading out his sci-fi influences in return for a more traditionally horror focused feature.
Jesse Buckley is in the running for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar this weekend. The Killarney-born actress was nominated for her work in The Lost Daughter. Buckley will soon be starring in Woman Talking alongside Frances McDormand, Claire Foy, and Ben Winshaw. The film is based on the novel by Miriam Toews and is set for release later this year.
