Netflix have shared a trailer for their Jason Corbett documentary A Deadly American Marriage, set for release on May 9, 2025.
Produced and directed by Jessica Burgess (Rich & Shameless) and Jenny Popplewell (What Jennifer Did), A Deadly American Marriage explores the tragic story and the unresolved questions behind Corbett’s death.
An Irish widower and father of two, Jason Corbett moved to North Carolina in 2008 with American au pair Molly Martens. In 2015, he was killed during a violent altercation at his home involving Martens and her father, former FBI agent Thomas Martens, both of whom were later prosecuted.
Martens and her father claimed self-defence and were convicted of second-degree murder in 2017. However, the North Carolina Supreme Court overturned their convictions in 2021 and ordered a new trial. In 2023, Molly entered a no contest plea, while Thomas pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
Their release from prison in June 2024 reignited questions about the incident.

The case is further complicated by the intricacies of Jason and Molly’s marriage, including a long-simmering custody dispute over Corbett’s children, Jack and Sarah, who were 10 and 8 years old at the time.
A Deadly American Marriage features exclusive interviews with Molly, Thomas, Jack, and Sarah.
