Oppenheimer is in cinemas July 21, 2023.
Starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is an epic thriller, thrusting audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of an enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.
Written and directed by Nolan, the film is based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin and produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Nolan.
The trailer offers another look at Murphy in his starring role, featuring a stirring monologue from the actor. It also pieces together expertly shot clips, building suspense for what is sure to be another hit from Nolan.
Earlier this year, Murphy spoke to Esquire about his "huge" role. He commented on Nolan's choice to cast him: "It's the first time he's cast me in a lead, which I'm still a bit in shock about, but I'm thrilled.
"It's a huge part and a lot of work. But in my estimation, you're working with one of the greatest living directors, so you're in safe hands. The difference with this one is the story is there, everybody knows what happened. But Chris is telling it in a different way, as with Chris you would expect. That's all I can say," Murphy added.

Alongside Murphy as the lead character, Oppenheimer stars Emily Blunt as his wife, biologist and botanist Katherine “Kitty” Oppenheimer. Matt Damon portrays General Leslie Groves Jr., director of the Manhattan Project, and Robert Downey, Jr. plays Lewis Strauss, a founding commissioner of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.
Starlet Florence Pugh plays psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, Benny Safdie plays theoretical physicist Edward Teller, Michael Angarano plays Robert Serber and Josh Hartnett plays pioneering American nuclear scientist Ernest Lawrence.
Oppenheimer also stars Oscar award winner, Rami Malek, and reunites Nolan with eight-time Oscar nominated actor, writer and filmmaker Kenneth Branagh.
The cast also includes Dane DeHaan (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Dylan Arnold (Halloween franchise), David Krumholtz (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises).
Filmed in a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film photography including, for the first time ever, sections in IMAX black and white analogue photography, with Nolan's vision at the helm, it's no doubt Oppenheimer is in for the same success as Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception, and more of the director's excellent works.
