The film was written and directed by Scottish, New York-based filmmaker Charlotte Wells.
Normal People star Paul Mescal stars as the father of a young girl, played by newcomer Frankie Corio, in the first trailer for AFTERSUN by Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells.
Told through the eyes of the daughter Sophie 20 years later, the feature film shows the pair on holiday in Turkey - playing in a pool, chatting, bonding. But present day Sophie is estranged from her father Calum, and tries to fill the gaps in her memory.
"Do you think you'll ever move back to Scotland?," the girl asks in the trailer, while her dad is stroking her hair. "No,... There's this feeling once you leave where you're from that you don't totally belong there again," he responds. The indie movie is set to be an emotional watch.

AFTERSUN debuted at Cannes earlier this year and will be distributed by A24, the American independent entertainment company behind productions such as Everything Everywhere All At Once, Lady Bird, Moonlight and HBO's Euphoria.
A24 shared the trailer on Twitter, writing: "Memory burns. Watch the official trailer for AFTERSUN, the stunning and deeply affecting feature debut from filmmaker Charlotte Wells. Starring Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio — only in theaters October 21."
Paul Mescal has had a busy year, with appearances in multiple feature films. Besides AFTERSUN, God's Creatures features the Maynooth-born actor as a mysterious man on an isolated Irish coast, who is accused of horrific crimes and tries to convince his mother (Emily Watson) that he is innocent. The thriller has received critical acclaim and will be released in theaters on 30 September 2022.
He also appears in Carmen, a modern-day reimagining of the classical opera Carmen, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) earlier this month.
Mescal will star alongside Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Fleabag) in the upcoming supernatural film Strangers.
