The art film was initially supposed to be a music documentary, but "somewhere along the way, things went terribly wrong”...
Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) and Carrie Brownstein of Sleater-Kinney have shared the trailer for their upcoming film The Nowhere Inn. The film will be coming to cinemas and on-demand later this year.
The two musicians co-wrote, produced, and starred in the project, which was announced initially in 2019 after the pair teamed up on a series of mock interview segments to promote St. Vincent's album MASSEDUCTION.

The Nowhere Inn premiered at Sundance Film festival in 2020, and was directed by Bill Benz – who has recently helmed two videos for St. Vincent ('Down' and 'Pay Your Way In Pain'). It will land on Apple TV later this year in addition to a theatrical release.

The trailer for the movie, which also stars Dakota Johnson as herself, sees Clark being filmed by Sleater-Kinney‘s Brownstein while out on the road in support of ‘MASSEDUCTION’.
“One of the reasons why I wanted to make a documentary in the first place is because I would finally be in control of the narrative,” Clark says in the clip, before things get distinctly surreal.
An official description of the film reads: “From real-life friends Annie Clark (a.k.a. GRAMMY award-winning recording and touring artist St. Vincent) and Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia, Sleater-Kinney) comes the metafictional account of two creative forces banding together to make a documentary about St. Vincent’s music, touring life, and on-stage persona.
“But they quickly discover unpredictable forces lurking within the subject and filmmaker that threaten to derail the friendship, the project, and the duo’s creative lives.”
