The teaser trailer for a new biopic on the late Amy Winehouse, Back To Black, has been released.
Starring Maris Abela as the late London singer, the film is directed by Sam Taylor Johnson, who’s CV includes Nowhere Boy and Fifty Shades of Grey.
The feature is set to portray Winehouse’s early rise to stardom and the release of her sophomore LP Back To Black.
“Told from Amy’s perspective, the film is an unapologetic look at the woman behind the phenomenon and the relationship that inspired one of the most legendary albums of all time,” reads the logline.

Also starring are Jack O’Connell as Winehouse’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil, Eddie Marsan as the late star’s father, Mitch Winehouse, Juliet Cowan as her mother, Janis Winehouse-Collins and Lesley Manville, who plays Amy’s grandmother, Cynthia Winehouse.
Winehouse passed away in 2011 aged 27 from alcohol poisoning. While Back To Black is the first biopic to me created on the beloved Camden native, a number of documentaries on her troubled life and legacy have been made, including the Oscar-winning Amy, which was released in 2015.
The upcoming film has been supported by the Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music and Sony Music Publishing – with the release date for Irish cinemas being April 12.
