Judging from the first trailer, Brendan Gleeson doesn't so much play as inhabit Donald Trump in the Showtime mini-series, The Comey Rule, which premieres Stateside on September 27 and will doubtless cross the Atlantic soon after. The star-studded cast also includes Jeff Daniels, Holly Hunter, Michael Kelly and Jennifer Ehle.
James Comey is the former Director of the FBI under Barack Obama who was fired by Trump in 2017, and got his own back by telling pretty much all in his biography.
"Based on Comey’s No. 1 New York Times bestselling book A Higher Loyalty and more than a year of additional interviews with a number of key principals, it is an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation," we're told. "The Comey Rule is not a biopic of one man, but is instead the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course."
