Watch the official trailer for the remastered version of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s 1970 documentary below.
The seminal re-release of The Beatles' Let It Be documentary is available to stream now on Disney+, marking the first time in 54 years that the film is widely available to the public.
First screened in May 1970 amidst the swirling drama of The Beatles’ breakup, Let It Be takes its rightful place in the Fab Four's canon. The latest iteration of the film has been brought to light via the same techniques used in Peter Jackson’s multiple Emmy Award-winning docuseries, The Beatles: Get Back.
Following the release Jackson's series on Disney+ in 2021, fan clamour for the original Let It Be film reached new heights. With help from original director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Jackson’s Park Road Post Production put in long hours to digitally restore the film from its original 16mm negative. The acclaimed filmmaker and his studio also delicately remastered the sound using the same MAL de-mix technology applied to the Get Back docuseries.
Let It Be contains footage not featured in Jackson’s 8-hour-long series, bringing viewers into the studio, as well onto Apple Corps’ London rooftop, where The Beatles delivered their iconic final live performance in January 1969 alongside legendary session keyboardist Billy Preston.
As the Beatles' last studio LP, Let It Be won a GRAMMY for Best Original Score Written For A Motion Picture, with its title track also going on to win an Oscar for Best Music. Directed by Lindsay-Hogg and starring John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, with a special appearance by Billy Preston, the accompanying documentary was produced by Neil Aspinall with the band members acting as executive producers.
