The first trailer for Wes Anderson's new film Asteroid City was released today. Its storyline is set in a fictitious American desert town in 1955.

An official synopsis of the film reads: "The itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events."

The upcoming film stars Jake Ryan, Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, and Scarlett Johansson and will be released in select theatres on June 16, followed by a nationwide release on June 23. Roman Coppola, who previously worked on films such as Isle of Dogs, On the Road, The Seven Faces of Jane, and On The Rocks, co-wrote the plot.

Since Asteroid City features an ensemble cast the film further stars actors Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jeff Goldblum, Sophia Lillis, Fisher Stevens, Ethan Josh Lee, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Rita Wilson, and Jarvis Cocker.

For his film The Grand Budapest Hotel, the American filmmaker Wes Anderson received his first Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Picture. For the 2014 comedy-drama, he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and the BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay.

While currently working on the romantic comedy-drama Asteroid City, he is also writing the adventure comedy film The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar for Netflix. It is an adaptation of the 1977 short story collection The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More by Roald Dahl and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar will be released later this year.
