The new Wes Anderson movie The French Dispatch, co-starring Saoirse Ronan, will be finally released in US theatres on October 22.

Although an Irish release date is still unannounced, the theatrical release of the tenth film directed by Anderson's will be sure to excite fans of the director of cult classics such as The Royal Tenenbaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The long-awaited film, originally set to be released in Irish theatres in August 2020, is set to premiere at the iconic Cannes Film Festival in June of this year.

Ronan will play a character listed as "a mysterious woman", with the film reportedly "a love letter to journalists, set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city."

She will co-star alongside stars such as Tilda Swinton, recent Best Actress Oscar winner Frances McDormand and frequent Anderson collaborators Bill Murray and Adrian Brody.

The last film she appeared in by Anderson saw her star as the love interest of Zero in the aforementioned The Grand Budapest Hotel, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won four.

Hot Press's Roe McDermott was enthralled by The Grand Budapest Hotel, saying that "It’s a splendid, glittering tale about embracing the past and finding beauty in the old. It’s a truly memorable film about not forgetting."
