Filmed in Crossmolina, Co. Mayo in September and October 2019; Wild Mountain Thyme was made with the support of Screen Ireland.
Lionsgate’s new film, Wild Mountain Thyme will be available to rent in the UK from April 30th and is expected to be released in cinemas in Ireland "by the summer".
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, there is uncertainty as to when the cinemas will reopen in Ireland, but there is optimism that this film will premiere here in the next season.
The film is written and directed by John Patrick Shanley who based the storyline around his Broadway play, Outside Mullingar.
Wild Mountain Thyme is set in rural Ireland and stars Emily Blunt as Rosemary Muldoon and Jamie Dornan as Anthony Reilly, who play star crossed lovers. The story contains a feud of land between Anthony and Rosemary’s family as well as a love triangle involving Anthony’s cousin, Adam - played by Jon Hamm.
It also features a well-known ensemble cast such as Christopher Walken as Anthony’s father and Dearbhla Molloy as Rosemary’s mother.
One of the most striking features of this film are the portrayals of the Irish accent and vernacular.

The accent attempted by Blunt, Dornan and Walken in particular have sparked widespread ridicule from the Irish, while the Aran cardigans, knitted shawls, muddy faces, and traditional fishing boats included in the trailer give the impression of '50s-era Ireland, despite mentions of IVF treatments.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show's New Year's Eve special, Co. Down actor Jamie Dornan said the response was typical of self-deprecating Irish humour.
"I thought the reaction was funny. I'm from Ireland and our currency is taking the piss, so it's rare to put something out there and not have the piss taken. I'm all for it."
Wild Mountain Thyme will be available to view in the UK only on Sky, Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Virgin, Talk Talk, BT, Rakuten, XBOX, Sony PS, Chili TV, and Showcase At Home.
