The film marks the sixth collaboration between Lanthimos and the Irish production company.
Director Yorgos Lanthimos will be helming a remake of Jang Joon-hwan’s black comedy Save The Green Planet.
Save The Green Planet, directed by Joon-hawn (who was originally attached to direct this new version), is a black comedy meets sci-fi thriller. The film, which quickly garnered a cult reputation from its release in 2003, follows a young man who captures and tortures a businessman, after he becomes convinced the latter is part of an alien invasion.
According to Variety, Lanthimos’ remake — based on a script by Will Tracy (Succession) — is set to commence shooting in the U.K. and New York this summer. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe from Dublin-based production company Element Pictures will produce the film alongside Ari Aster’s Square Peg and CJ ENM (previously named CJ Entertainment).
His sixth collaboration with Element Pictures, Lanthimos also sought their production for, among others, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lobster, The Favourite and, most recently, Poor Things.

At the BAFTA awards last night, Poor Things garnered five awards, including ‘Best Production Design’, ‘Best Special Visual Effects’ and ‘Best Actress’ for Emma Stone. The filmmaker is currently at the height of his success, and it seems as though he can only go up from here.
