Tuesday’s protest at Ballyfermot may lead to an ongoing sit-in, similar to those at other Iceland locations.
Workers from Iceland's Ballyfermot branch are set to strike next Tuesday July 18.
The frozen food chain continues to trade, despite concerns growing over the company’s future in Ireland after the closure of stores in Coolock, Talbot Street and several other locations in Dublin’s Northside.
Staff from the Talbot Street Iceland are continuing their ongoing sit-in protest over pay, following the branch’s unexpected closure three weeks ago.
You have to admire the staff here in #Talbot st as the continue their occupation.
DAY 19.💪🏻
It’s not easy to hold up in a store unsure of the outcome but they are a resilient bunch and they are fighting the good fight. #UpTheWorkers @paulmurphy_TD pic.twitter.com/USN8nwYOHl

Former employees have taken their concerns to the Dail to discuss their concerns. People Before Profit's Bernard Mulvany said that staff have the upper hand so long as they continue the sit-in.
“We're trying to support all Iceland workers and we're asking them to occupy stores that have closed- if they have control of the stock, they have a bit of leverage,” he said. "They played their hand too soon out there, which they know now. We're determined not to let Talbot Street fall so we can at least leverage this store and this occupation."
Workers at the Coolock branch have also reoccupied their shop, despite previously agreeing to comply with Iceland bosses. Mr Mulvany said this sit-in has lost its effect, as Iceland bosses removed all stock from the shop.
The politician also said Tuesday’s protest at Ballyfermot may lead to an ongoing sit-in, similar to those at other Iceland locations.
