THE BOHO LOOK IS CHIC AGAIN – AND WITH THE FESTIVAL SEASON APPROACHING, ITS LAIDBACK STYLISHNESS SHOULD SEE ITS POPULARITY GROW EVEN FURTHER.
Showing that you can embrace the
trends of high fashion on a low budget,
Penneys' latest summer collection is
all about embracing the freedom of
bohemian fashion, which draws on
many influences and has the confidence and
unique style of an intrepid world traveller.
Combining fringe, kaftans, peasant blouses, maxi
skirts, scarves, embroidery and delicate patterns,
the effortlessly draping silhouettes of boho
fashion suit every figure, and make for perfect
summer and festival wear. Think of this trend as
a patchwork of ideas, and feel free to add your
own unique twist to the look via ornate jewellery,
accessories and headwear.
Proenza Schouler's Spring/Summer collection
was a sophisticated blend of black fringe skirts
and tops; pieces that can look elegant and formal
when paired together, or can be mixed and
matched with other colours and fabrics for a more
eccentric, casual ensemble. Etro also embraced
fringe, with suede fringed boots adding a boho
chic edge to cute shorts, patterned peasant
blouses and flowing capes and kaftan-style coats.
Alberto Ferretti played with fabric, teaming lace
dresses with crocheted vests and fringe accents,
while knee-high gladiator sandals added a rocky
edge to daywear.
To embrace this look, stick to earth tones, as
deep rust reds, browns, mustards and creams
evoke the ‘70s hippie-vibe of the trend. Look for
loose and flirty silhouettes, with drawstring
waists, short playsuits and fringed vests a must.
Dainty floral motifs and tribal prints can be
clashed and contrasted, and don't be afraid to layer
fabrics, like lace, crochet, suede, fringe and fur. The
more layers, the more unique the look – and it will
keep you warm when those hazy summer days
turn into cool summer nights.
