Tomorrow’s League of Ireland Dublin Derby between Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers will honour the late Christy Dignam. Bohemians will don a one-off jersey for the game in his honour.

The jersey features ‘Aslan’ dashed across the front of the jersey, atop Bohs’ iconic red and black stripes, as well as a badge on the shoulder honouring Christy.

The jersey is now available to pre-order via the Bohemian F.C website, with all profits going to St Francis Hospice. In addition, collections will be held among both sets of supporters in attendance at Dalymount Park on Friday.

Christy Dignam died last week on Tuesday June 13, at the age of 63. He had endured a decade-long battle with illness, but died peacefully. His funeral was attended by thousands of adoring fans, and tributes were paid to the Aslan singer by so many from the Irish music scene and beyond.

Speaking about Bohemian’s new football jersey in honour of her father, Kiera Dignam said: “My Dad was a big supporter of the League of Ireland and would absolutely love being included on a jersey and to be honoured in such a way. We will be forever grateful for this gesture in memory of my Dad.”

Bohemian’s COO Daniel Lambert said: “We are delighted to be able to announce this one-off jersey in memory of Christy Dignam and hopefully raise a large amount of money for St Francis Hospice.”

Lambert continued: “With the support of both the family and the band, with all proceeds to such a worthwhile cause, and with a minute’s silence before the game and Aslan over the PA for the night, it will add something very special to an already special fixture: The Dublin Derby remembering a Dublin hero.”

Tomorrow’s match will be attended by members of Christy’s family. It sees Bohs host top of the table Rovers in what is sure to be a fiery and close-fought encounter. The two sides last met in May, when Rovers beat Bohs 2-0 in Tallaght.
