The very first UFC event in New York City has finally received the big name fight it deserved
It's official, after weeks of speculation, injury rumours, opponent change-ups, and constant whispers, the headline fight for UFC 205 will be Conor McGregor versus Eddie Alvarez.
The Dubliner will drop from 170 pounds to 155 pounds to fight the current lightweight champion Alvarez. Eddie captured the 155 belt from Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 on July 7, with a first-round knockout. An impressive feat considering the run and the calibre of opponents dos Anjos had fought and defeated.
In the past few weeks, the 155 champ called out McGregor on Twitter urging him to take the bout. The cheeky Irishman simply replied with two words "Beg Me".
It appears Eddie grovelled enough, and the two champions will face off in November, with Conor getting his chance to be the first fighter ever to hold two belts simultaneously in two different weight divisions.

New York is a city the Dubliner has long had his eye on as a potential home away from home. Before MMA was legal in NY, Mystic Mac had labelled it as his new potential fight capital. He commented on the problems, not only with the distance and time difference of Las Vegas, for himself, but for travelling Irish fans and people who have to stay up till 6am to watch him fight.
Hopefully, the 5 hour time difference will cut down on a few of those concerns.
UFC 205 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 12.
