The Hot Press guide to the best beers, spirits, bars and artisanal foods.
The first micro-brewery to have been established in The Kingdom, all the way back in 2008, West Kerry Brewery was set up by owner Adrienne in the garden of her pub Tig Bhric. Adrienne is also the first person in Ireland to be a microbrewer as well as a publican – which is an incredible achievement in and of itself.
Having noticed that a lot of visitors to her pub were interested in the local drinks, Adrienne took advantage of the fact that there was a water well in the garden of her pub and, according to the woman herself, one day simply switched from brewing soup to brewing beers.
Now, over 10 years later, the brewery features a range of absolutely delightful tipples. Among them are the three core beers, Carraig Dhubh Porter (6%), Cúl dorcha Dark Ale (5%), Béal Bán Golden Ale (5%); the ‘Renegade Series’, which includes the Blue Rose Dry hopped Irish Pale Ale (5%); and the seasonal Riasc Range – with garden botanicals – comprising of the Riasc Red Spring Red Ale (5.5%), Riasc Gold Summer Golden Ale (5.5%), and Riasc Black Autumn/Winter Porter (6.1%).
On top of all that, for those who fancy spending the night in this scenic area, the pub also offers accommodation in the form of their cosy Brewer’s Lodge.

Fiercely proud of her place as an independent brewer and doing absolutely marvellous things for craft beer along the Wild Atlantic Way, we can’t recommend Adrienne’s West Kerry Brewery enough and urge every visitor – whether local or tourist! – to stop by and check it out.
