Stuart Clark enjoys a night out in disndat, the student-friendly pub and live music venue in Dame Court, Dublin 2 which has special offers galore and a warm welcome for all.
Fiver pints, €7.50 spirits with a dash, €10 cocktails, free live music and guaranteed great craic.
That’s the Monday to Wednesday deal at disndat, the student-friendly pub and venue in Dublin’s Creative Quarter which is within close walking distance of Trinity College, Grafton Street, Temple Bar, The George, 3Olympia and numerous other city-centre hotspots.
“We’re really in the thick of things and get a great mix of people including lots of students,” enthuses disndat manager Kassie Connelly. “We’re one of the very few places locally offering €5 pints, which is great if you’re on a tight budget. Atmosphere-wise, disndat has that traditional Dublin pub vibe but is very inclusive with everyone welcome.
“Another big attraction is our seven nights a week live music, which is really eclectic and gets everyone up dancing.”
That was certainly the case when Team Hot Press caught their Monday night residents Dani Duo, a fabulous Brazilian double act whose set ranged from Latino classics to choice Dolly Parton and Cranberries covers.
Other disndat regulars include David Butler, Will Kanela, Gary Harpur, Guto Piazza, Ray Scully, Aidan Kelly, Ash Kavanagh, Iann Brennan and Fin Furey who all have their own loyal followings.
“They’re a great bunch of performers who like to involve the audience and are happy to take requests,” Kassie reflects. “Recently at our Thursday night Not Karaoke session we had a group of customers who sang ‘Dirty Old Town’ in Icelandic – it was class!”
Along with disndat’s special student offers, there’s a €10 Pint of Guinness, Toastie and Crisps deal available weekdays until 5pm.
The none-more-melty toasties in question come from near-neighbours Stoned Pizza who pride themselves on using the finest artisan ingredients. The Cheddar and Pulled Pork combo is especially nibblesome!
You can also scan the QR code on your table to order fresh pizza from PI on George’s Street whose wood-fired masterpieces include plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
For the carnivores among you, their signature Nduja Pizza with Crushed Tomato, Fresh Basil, Healy Family Honey, Scamorza and Grand Padano manages to taste even more delicious than it sounds!
Housed in a CD jewel case and musically themed, the disndat drinks menu devotes an entire section to the cocktails conjured up by their mixologist-in-chief, Jamie Blair.
These include the spicy Sex On Fire, which combines Absolut Mandarin with passionfruit, orange and Firewater cinnamon liqueur, and Smoke On The Water, a vibrant mix of peated Connemara whiskey, lime and sugar.
Jamie and the disndat bar crew are also happy to shake, stir or muddle up your favourite classic cocktail.
“The CD-style menu was Jamie’s idea and he’s had great fun matching song titles to his cocktails,” Kassie smiles. “We’ve also got a really good selection of spirits and have teamed up recently with Rye River to increase our craft beer offering.”
If you’re planning a celebration or a night out for your student society, disndat has a private party area with its own bar and outdoor terrace, which can accommodate up to sixty people and is free to book before November 1.
“We’ve a ‘Whole Shebang’ VIP Access package for just €36 per person, which includes a cocktail or glass of prosecco on arrival, three drink tokens and a selection of PI pizzas, so you’re looked after really well!” Kassie says.
If you’re making a proper night or weekend of it, a private entrance connects the bar to REZz, their sister boutique hotel which has bright, spacious en suite rooms and a 10% drinks discount in disndat for all REZz-idents.
“We had AC/DC fans staying with us last weekend who came in for a drink after the gig and were then able to just pop up to their rooms,” Kassie concludes. “The Button Factory, Academy, 3Olympia, Whelan’s and Grand Social are all nearby, so we get a lot of gig-goers and people up for matches. It’s just a really great, fun place to hang out.”
