Plans are afoot to bring the 2030 World Cup to Ireland. The FAI has confirmed that Republic of Ireland "could be" part of joint bid to host tournament with the UK.
The FAI has agreed to join a feasibility study for 2030 World Cup bid with the football associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
"Following recent positive discussions amongst all parties it has been agreed that the Football Association of Ireland will join the English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish FAs in conducting a feasibility review into a potential joint bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup," the FAI confirmed in a statement.
England hosted and won the 1966 World Cup, but failed in bids to host the event on their own in 2006 and 2018. So the joint strategy could pay off seeing as FIFA to looked favourably upon a joint applications from United States, Mexico and Canada to host the prestigious contest in 2026.
