The British former neonatal nurse was convicted of the murders of seven babies last month, but will have to face retrial for one of the outstanding charges regarding the murder of another baby.
33-year-old former nurse Lucy Letby broke the hearts of the nation when it was revealed earlier this year that she was responsible for the murders and attempted murders of a total of thirteen babies whom had been under her care.
The former neonatal nurse-turned-serial-killer was convicted of the murders of seven babies and the attempted murders of six others at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The murders took place in the hospital’s neonatal unit between 2015 and 2016, and the court’s decision came last month.

Letby was handed a full life sentence for each of the seven murders. However, the Manchester Crown Court was not able to reach verdicts on account of six counts of attempted murder regarding five other children. Today, the Crown Prosecution Service has announced that it will direct a retrial on one of these outstanding charges.
The charge in question concerns Letby’s attempted murder of a baby girl called ‘Child K,’ in February of 2016. A provisional trial date of June 10, 2024 has been set. The retrial is expected to last two to three weeks.
Letby appeared at the hearing today via video chat, from a conference room. The suspect said nothing, except to confirm her name and that there were no technical difficulties.
