Bláth na hÓige at St. Comgalls, Belfast, March 2
The eight piece music group Bláth na hÓige have been shortlisted three times for this year’s RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards, receiving nods in the Best Folk Group category, Best Folk album and Best Traditional Folk Track for their arrangement of ‘Seán Gabha’. The band, who also have performed on the Tommy Tiernan show, will be performing as part of the Ceol Cois Lao line up put together by Club Conradh na Gael.

The artist collective Craobh 1916 will be putting on an art market in the basement of this Harcourt Street institution. They’ll be a live DJ, cheap pints, tarot readings as Gaeilge, 2nd hand clothes, great art and what the group describe as “a generous award” for the best Countess Markievicz impersonation.

Rónán Ó Snodaigh agus Myles O' Reilly, Middlethird Social Farm, March 3
This Oranmore venue will see two giants of the traditional music scene come together as both Rónán O Snodaigh and Myles O'Reilly perform material from their second collaborative album The Beautiful Road. The sophomore LP see the pair set out to create a soothing listening experience by focusing on the calming effects of nature, while also seeking to counter the increased levels of intrusive ambient ‘white noise’ caused by traffic, machinery, and other unpredictable sounds The show will be a family friendly gig.
Na Peirsigh - The Persians, Abbey Theatre, March 6 - April 6
Europe's oldest surviving play- Na Peirsigh or more commonnlty known as Aesschylus’ The Persians, is set to be performed on the Peacock stage in Irish with English subtitles. This iteration of the Ancient Greek drama is translated by renowned Irish language poet and Aodána member Nuala Ní Dhónaill, and features Brooklyn star Karen Adriff, Brendan Conroy, and Seamus Moran.
Lón Mór an Phobai, Gael-Ionad Mhic Goill, Belfast, March 8
A long table community lunch in aid of Palestine, Gael Ionad Mhic Goill Belfast will be dishing up a variety of international and local cuisine. The long table provides the perfect cheap and cheerful excuse to dust off the cúpla focal all in the name of a great cause. The organisers have asked everyone to cook a meal and bring it with you.

Maggie Mhór, Amharclann Naomh Eoin, Listowel, Kerry, March 9
Cumann Drámaíochta Chois Fharraige was founded over 20 years ago and began touring their translation of John B. Keane’s iconic play Big Maggie in 2023. Since then Maggie Mhór has made audiences laugh and cry in Inisheer, Aranmore, Galway, Cork, Donegal and Derry before finally making it to John B. Keane’s hometown- the long way round.
Takin' the Mic, Irish Writers Centre- March 13
The first ever bilingual ‘Taking The Mic’ at the Irish writers Centre will feature actor, playwright and Dublin Oldschool screenwriter, Emmet Kirwan as host. Along with Kirwan’s unique humour and searing insight, they’ll be readings from special guest authors including Irish language radio presenter Ola Majekodunmi. The event will also include a bilingual open mic for writers, poets and musicians.
