Today is the second anniversary of the legendary designer's passing
It's two years since we lost Vivienne Westwood, the fashion designer whose clothes helped fuel the UK's punk uprising during the '70s. Before her passing in 2022, Pistol docudrama star Maisie Williams talked to Hot Press about the pivotal role Vivienne played in Messrs. - and, indeed, messers - Rotten, Jones, Cook, Matlock/Vicious giving rock 'n' roll a serious kick up the arse.
"I imagined punk as being quite blokey, but in addition to Jordan, Vivienne and Chrissie you had other strong female characters like Soo Catwoman, Siouxsie Sioux and Simone Thomas," the English actor noted. "They were just as much a driving force as the boys were.”
Earlier that year Williams had worn Westwood at a BBC TV premiere.
“Oh, I loved that!” she enthused. “I went to one of Vivienne’s shows, but didn’t pluck up the courage to talk to her. Fashion is a fiercely competitive industry, which she’s been at the top for almost fifty years. I’d love to sit down and have a bottle of wine with her.”

Sadly that meeting of great minds never happened, but Vivienne's legacy lives on - and then some!
