Steady progress has been made towards developing a new public swimming space in Dublin, but the campaigners are still some distance from reaching their GoFundMe goal.
The Dublin City Lido project, for which advocates have been campaigning, is engaged in another round of fund-raising. There has been a vast influx of community support for more public swimming spaces in Ireland, as people become more aware both of the need for increased, accessible leisure facilities – and of the health benefits of swimming.
The Dublin City Lido committee are at the forefront of this cause, with their plans to design an outdoor swimming facility in Dublin city centre, with multiple pools, a green space and leisure facilities; the Lido would cater for everyone, locals and visitors alike – including accomplished swimmers, learners and non-swimmers.
The good news is that steady progress is being made towards the key objective of creating an inclusive public swimming facility and green space at George's Dock. But, the Dublin City Lido campaign is reliant on crowdfunding. However, campaigners have been raising funds for an updated pool design.
Ahead of their planned, upcoming meeting with Dublin City Council, having already raised €8,377, campaigners are aiming to reach their €20,000 goal needed to fund a new design.
Following comprehensive feedback from Dublin City Council and further advancements on the proposal, there is a growing feeling that Dublin is inching ever closer to seeing a proper public swimming space in the area.
