Any MMA fans reading will be pumped for the fight listening to this new song.
Cork singer-songwriter Meghan Ali has dropped a new single, 'The Battle', from her upcoming debut album Judgement Day out later this year.
Following on from 'Mystic Forest’ and ‘Whiskey Neat', released earlier in 2021, her third single from the record is an uplifting track with Irish traditional influences.
The anthemic folk song was written as a new theme for MMA Cork and will also be their fighters' new walkout music. It will be first used when Cork City native John Mitchell fights Arbi Emiev in Abu Dhabi on June 19.
Co-written with musicians Billy Farrell & Clare Sands, ‘The Battle’ was written, recorded and produced during the COVID-19 pandemic in each artists' own houses. The trio sent their different parts to each other, virtually and are yet to perform the song in the same room together - an endeavour which many artists can relate to over the past year and a half.

Meghan has had a pretty meteoric career over the last few years, playing with the likes of Bagatelle and John Spillane. She describes her songwriting process as always starting with the melody first, calling it the “seed from which the plant grows."
The artist also played Hot Press' Y&E series earlier this year in May. She closed her set with her as Gaeilge song, 'Home' - a track that tugs at the heartstrings of those either patriotically inclined or living away from the country and missing Ireland.
