Netflix have shared the trailer for The Final: Attack on Wembley, an upcoming documentary which looks at the violent unrest at Wembley stadium during the European Championship final in 2021.
On 11 July, 2021, England were on the brink of a historic victory on home soil as Gareth Southgate’s men faced Italy.
The occasion marked the Three Lions’ first major final since their 1966 World Cup victory, which, when combined with the fact that the game was one of the first in the country to be played at a full capacity stadium following Covid-19 restrictions, created a bubbling sense of excitement among England fans.

Supporters arrived in London from all around the country, as celebration quickly turned to chaos, when, amid scenes of drunkenness and drug-taking, ticketless fans saw an opportunity to storm the stadium.
Through the use of “compelling first-hand testimony and visceral user-generated-content”, the upcoming Netflix production looks to document the “dramatic story of a day that began with euphoria, and ended in a nation left reeling.”
This disappointment ultimately extended to the pitch, as England lost to Roberto Mancini’s men following a dramatic penalty shootout.
