The Irish sailor, so unlucky in London, has bounced back to land on the podium in Brazil
Annalise Murphy has won a silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
The Dublin woman, who was fiercely unlucky to be squeezed into fourth in London, finished fifth in today's medal race of the Laser Radial class, which was enough to seal second place.
At times, it looked as though she could even push out the Dutch sailor Marit Bouwmeester for gold, but that proved to be a bridge too far. There was no way, though, that the Belgian Evi van Acker was getting by to prevent a medal, and her margin ahead of the Danish threat guaranteed a spot on the middle step of the winner's rostrum.
The silver medal is a much-needed boost for Irish fans, following the massively controversial exit of Michael Conlan from the boxing tournament earlier today.
