With crisp architectural shapes and silhouettes hitting the catwalks this year, Colin Horgan’s clean geometric designs are bang on trend. Studying for a BA (Hons) in womenswear at Limerick School of Art and Design, Horgan has an incredible eye for detail. His work has shown in Brown Thomas in Dublin and featured in the Triumph Inspiration Award. Colin’s striking designs earned a semi- finalist slot at the Vogue X MUUSE Talent 2013, and netted him a berth on KFW2013’s ‘One to Watch’ list.
Despite technically being a student, Colin has proved himself a master designer on the Irish fashion stage. His creations have featured in the Irish Independent, Irish Tatler, IMAGE, Sunday Business Post, Marie Claire, Ooh La La, Chasseur and DISORDER. This isn’t surprising when you see Colin’s striking designs, which combine strong shapes with a stunning blend of sheer and leather fabrics: a gorgeous juxtaposition of textile and theme.
Working mainly with a monochrome palette with bright bursts of fire red, bright orange and cobalt blue, Horgan’s punching palette emphasises the almost mathematical aspect of his designs. This season’s sports-luxe trend is captured in the leather piping-effect highlights of his pieces, with strong shoulders and sports pants cropping up in his collections. Colin also plays with the femininity of sheer fabrics. Combining beautifully draped sheers with laser cut leather highlights, his pieces mix the bold with the sensual.
Colin brings a sense of high fashion androgyny to his designs too, emphasising bold, masculine silhouettes for some of his womenswear separates, such as bomber jackets and square tops. However, his collections are also deeply evocative, with revealing slits and geometrically cut pieces providing a sense of confident and deliberate sexuality, not unlike that of Helmut Lang.

Colin is working on his autumn-winter collection for 2014. It will form part of the Limerick School of Art & Design’s Fashion Show 2014, which is, in turn, part of the ‘City of Culture’ celebrations. There will be 26 other designers from the class of 2014, plus guest designer Sharon Wauchob, showing on the night.
