Eilis Boyle’s dark and cozy creations are the product of years of globe-trotting and deep thinking.
Born in the Caribbean to a Spanish mother and Irish father, Eilis Boyle’s designs are filled with unique influences. She has spent much of her life travelling the world, studying in Bolivia and Japan, before receiving qualifications in fashion at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Madrid. However, she remains proudly Irish and continues to live here.
She is inspired by the Irish landscape and by a host of other things: photography, fabrics, art, people. And, of course, travel. Music has also played a part in her career. The first design school she studied at was connected to a record label. She would help design garments for musicians playing inMadrid. Her most memorable creation from this period? A jacket for Michael Hutchence and a mini-dress forTina Turner. Thankfully, her current designs are accessible to us mere mortals, too. Using silk, cotton and sumptuous cashmere, her luxurious, slightly gothic pieces are ethereal and romantic. Timeless and free from trends, her garments can be regarded as investment pieces, waiting to be handed down through generations.
She is a thinker as well as a designer. Her blog The Silent Storyteller combines photographs, writing and a healthy dose of whimsy. It’s less a blog than a snapshot of an artistic mind. Eilis’ new collection will be unveiled this October, Her boutique, Bow, is located in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin. Her designs can also be seen on EilisBoyle.com.
