See-through everything dominated the catwalks for Spring/Summer 2014. See-through dresses, tops and skirts were everywhere, from Burberry Prorsum to Christopher Kane to Saint Laurent.
Most designers are keeping the trend as conservative as possible in order to make it somewhat wearable. This means colours are mainly either pastel or brilliant white, skirts are hemmed below the knee and blouses are long sleeved and buttoned right to the top.
Irish designer Simone Rocha's shows had nude coloured transparent tops and dresses on braless and otherwise topless models, with dark skirts leaving only the models' bottom halves to the imagination. Saint Laurent went a similar route, with a sheer black blouse paired with a leather skirt and covered by an oversized tux jacket. Simone Rocha's airy, ethereal collection also features items made of clear plastic with white or black embroidered flowers.
Celebrities quickly caught on to the trend, meaning that at almost every major fashion event over the last couple of months there has been a lady or two in something sheer.
A favourite among British celebrities such as Paloma Faith, Alexa Chung and up-and-coming model/actress/singer/photographer/everything else Suki Waterhouse, the Burberry Prorsum Resort collection is full of lace dresses and skirts to be worn over nothing but matching Burberry knickers.

On the catwalk, the skirts were worn either with sheer blouses, with the models' chests concealed by this season's oversized coats, or were paired with light jumpers.
Of course, celebrities have to be a little more conservative than models are on the catwalk, so they have taken a slightly different approach to covering up. Alexa, Paloma and Suki all wore their lace ensembles over strapless white body suits.
No sign of the Irish female population taking on the transparent trend, but that may just be thanks to the weather. If it ever gets warm enough to ditch the opaque tights we may see a change.
