Don’t settle for merely blending in; 2015 is all about looking incredible. In bold primary colours..
It’s a new year and a new fashion season, which means that stunning new collections are seductively whispering the promise that a whole new wardrobe will result in a whole new you. Luckily, the hottest trends for 2015 can easily be attained and worked into your existing style. And with a focus on striking, simple and timeless shapes, fabrics and colours, any new purchases can be justified as investment pieces. Follow our guide to the hottest friends of 2015 and make looking incredible your New Year’s resolution.
This year it’s about getting back to basics: bold primary colours. Blue is back with a bang, and in versatile ways. Layer different shades of cobalt, sapphire, ice blue, navy and grey for a sophisticated look that oozes winter glamour without the severity of pure black. Labels like Honor, Zimmerman and Christian Siriano embraced the chillier side of the hue with glacial tones, while Alice + Olivia looked to Matisse’s Blue Nude II for their striking deep blue prints.
As for colour combinations, blue and white is huge this season, with Adeam and Max Azria showing both bold colour blocking and intricate patterns on the runway. This combination of separates will be multi-functional this season, as the usual spring-time purity of pristine all-white ensembles is also a hot trend.
While Calvin Klein kept his white silhouettes simple and sporty with jersey dresses, Jill Stewart combined sheer, flowing tops with sharp origami skirts. Tadashi Shoji combined intricate crop tops with flowing skirts with sheer overlays, for a look that’s dressy but sexy and fresh.
From pure white to pure sunshine, the brightest and most summer-facing hue is lemon yellow. Though tricky on pale complexions, teamed with a red lip and this year’s other big shades, no other colour packs such a cheerful, uplifting punch. Michael Kors’ beautifully feminine yellow maxi dresses featured delicate black and white patterns, and Diane Von Furstenberg selected the classic trench to be drenched in sunny shades, making it endlessly wearable. If the hue is a bit overwhelming, inject a bit of lemon yellow into your ensemble via your accessories, such as bright bags and shoes.
Finally when it comes to fabrics, swap your tried and tested leather for suede, which is making a comeback. Suede jackets lend a bit of interest to staple jackets, while you can’t go wrong with a fantastic pair of suede, art deco heels – bonus points if you go for a seasonal hue. Go forth and set your sartorial tone for the rest of 2015.
