As part of a special Hot Press feature, we're taking a look at some of the most exciting staycation options around the country. Next up is Crosshaven...
Crosshaven, Co. Cork
Tucked along the shores of Cork Harbour, the seaside village of Crosshaven is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable experience for visitors looking to get away from life’s hustle and bustle. Only a half hour from the centre of Cork City, Crosshaven is easy to reach by car, taxi or bus.
Whether you’re a lover of nature, sailing, history, music or simply looking for a tranquil escape, Crosshaven ticks all the boxes for an unforgettable holiday.
Home to the oldest yacht club in the world, this quaint village is a sprawling epicentre of all things sailing based out of the Royal Cork Yacht Club. Held every two years in July, the Regatta of Cork Week draws competitors from all over the world and upwards of 15,000 spectators to each competition.

But even during the off-season, the marina in Crosshaven is a must visit. With its bustling boat traffic and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for a stroll or to watch the sunset over the harbour.
For the outdoor types, Crosshaven offers an array of activities, from hiking and cycling to sailing and boat tours. The surrounding countryside is a haven for hikers, with trails offering panoramic views of the harbour and its surroundings; the Crosshaven Cliff Loop or the Railway Walk are two unbeatable options. If you’re keen on cycling, the nearby Greenway trail provides an excellent opportunity to explore the area at your own pace.
For the maritime lovers, meanwhile, there’s the Cork Sea Safari and Ocean Escapes tours of the surrounding harbour, and the wildlife that roam the waters, including seals, basking sharks and dolphins.
